Flight delays overview: Flying in July is particularly late

Frequency of delays in summer 2024

In July 2024, 44 percent of from German airports took off more than 30 minutes later than planned. Travelers who remain flexible in the summer months of 2025 should therefore fly in June or August to minimize the risk. According to KAYAK, German airports will be particularly busy on June 6th and 7th and August 1st and 2nd.

Ideal departure times for punctuality

Early departures offer the best chance of being on time, as only 14 percent of at 6 a.m. were delayed. In contrast, flights at 11 p.m. suffered the most delays at 58 percent. Departures at 3 p.m. are also disadvantageous for travelers who want to start on time.

Regional differences in delays

Larger German airports such as , Cologne and Frankfurt am Main had the highest delay rates. in particular is at the top, where almost half of the departures last year were delayed. Smaller airports like Bremen performed significantly better, with less frequent and shorter delays.

Return flight scenario at popular travel destinations

Travelers should also expect significant delays for return flights in 2025 from popular holiday destinations such as , Lisbon, Mallorca and . In , 53 percent of flights were delayed, with an average waiting time of 38 minutes.

Busiest and most expensive departure dates are based on KAYAK flight data from flight searches between January 1, 2025 and February 10, 2025 for travel between June 1, 2025 and October 1, 2025.
