Dortmund Airport is recording a significant increase in passenger numbers

Dortmund reports a 27.5 percent increase in passenger numbers during the autumn holidays. From October 12 to 27, 172,174 used the ‘s services, an increase of more than 37,000 compared to the previous year. The increased demand confirmed the forecast growth trend.

Significant increase in passenger numbers

A total of 172,174 passengers used Dortmund Airport for their travels during this year’s autumn holidays. In the same period last year, the number was around 135,000 travelers. The airport therefore recorded an increase of over 27.5 percent or more than 37,000 additional passengers.

Popular and passenger trends

Of the over 40 available from Dortmund, certain routes were particularly popular, as was the case during the summer holidays. The busy connection to Katowice recorded the highest demand with almost 21,000 passengers. Many travelers went to the Balearic of Mallorca to soak up the sun before winter. This destination had almost 15,800 passengers with over 100 movements.

Successful start to your holiday at the airport

The busiest day of the autumn holidays fell on Saturday, October 12th, when almost 13,000 passengers were processed at Dortmund Airport. The route to Bucharest also recorded impressive numbers with around 9,200 passengers. The high level of travel activity at the start of the holidays was a clear indicator of the increased interest in air travel in autumn 2024.

Forecast and outlook

The positive fall holiday balance reflects the ongoing growth trend at Dortmund Airport. Almost 298,000 travelers used the airport in September, making the month one of the top months of the year. October is expected to reach a similar level, supporting the airport’s plans to reach its annual target of 3 million passengers.

Dortmund Airport is an important transport hub for travelers in the region. The airport offers direct connections to numerous European cities and is becoming increasingly popular with passengers from and around Dortmund.
