Munich Airport strengthens relations with Asia

Successful passenger numbers and most popular destinations

Munich Airport will record impressive growth in long-haul traffic to Asia in 2024. A total of 2.6 million passengers traveled from Munich to eleven Asian countries, an increase of 38.7 percent compared to the previous year. Bangkok in particular was highlighted as the most popular destination, followed by Singapore and Beijing. This positive development is attributed to a mix of existing connections and new routes.

New and established flight connections

Additional connections through renowned airlines such as EVA Air and Vietnam Airlines contribute significantly to growth. EVA Air has been successfully offering four weekly non-stop flights to Taipei for two years, while Vietnam Airlines has been launching flights to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City since October. From June 2025, Cathay Pacific will increase the number of Far Eastern airlines flying to Munich Airport to ten.

Increase in cargo sector

Not only travel traffic, but also the cargo area at Munich Airport is showing significant growth. Around a third of intercontinental freight volume, a total of 105,000 tons, will go to the East Asian region in 2024. Munich Airport acts as a central hub that connects the export-rich south of Germany with important trading partners such as China, India and Japan.

Munich Airport launches Lunar New Year discount campaign

Passengers can benefit from staggered discounts ranging up to 88 euros until the end of March 2025. This campaign is intended to further promote travel to Asia and offers an attractive opportunity for travelers to benefit from the offers at the airport.
