Passenger development and records
Airport managing director Ludger van Bebber informed the supervisory board about passenger developments. Despite a slight decline in the second quarter due to repairs at Wizz Air, the airport closed the half-year with growth of 1.8%. In September the numbers showed a positive development again, resulting in a historic high of 321,164 travelers in October. The airport welcomed its three millionth passenger on December 16, and van Bebber expects a total of 3.1 million travelers for the year.
Flight operations in 2025 and strategies
Ryanair’s decision to reduce operations in Germany also affects Dortmund Airport. Eurowings is also planning to shorten its route offerings. Nevertheless, van Bebber shared that there are recent announcements about frequency increases and new routes to offset these reductions. The ambitious goal for 2025 is to reach the passenger volume of 2024.
Infrastructure modernization
The supervisory board approved the reconstruction of the passenger bridges at positions 3 and 4, which should reduce boarding and deboarding times. This measure will allow passengers to board and disembark via both cabin doors in the future to speed up the process. This is particularly true for the 13 apron positions, of which these two are the only ones with passenger bridges.
Sustainable investments
In its pursuit of sustainability, the airport is relying on electrically powered handling equipment and plans to convert all apron lighting to LED technology. These steps demonstrate the airport’s commitment to environmental responsibility and are intended to further reduce the carbon footprint.
Flughafen Dortmund GmbH, a dynamic player in German air traffic, focuses on growth and sustainability. Through strategic adjustments and investments, the airport is underlining its willingness to actively shape the mobility of the future and to act as an important transport hub in the long term.
