TRIWO Hahn Airport recorded significant increases in both passenger and cargo handling in the first quarter of 2025. Over 440,000 passengers and approximately 22,000 tons of cargo were handled. Managing Director Rüdiger Franke expressed satisfaction with the development and expected continued positive figures for the year.
Passenger numbers on the rise
In the first quarter of 2025, Hahn Airport welcomed more than 440,000 passengers, an increase of over 30 percent compared to the same period last year. Rüdiger Franke, Managing Director of TRIWO Hahn Airport, explained that airlines have expanded their offerings, particularly with regard to the summer flight schedule, which has been active since March 30. Franke expects to handle around 2.2 million passengers by the end of the year.
Successful freight business
The cargo sector also presented a positive picture. The airport handled approximately 22,000 tons of air cargo in the first quarter of 2025, an increase of eight percent compared to the previous year. With its 24-hour operating license, the airport remains attractive for cargo companies. However, Franke stated that the impact of geopolitical uncertainties on the sector remains to be seen.
Hahn Airport: Investments in the future
Hahn Airport is actively preparing for further increases in passenger numbers. Franke emphasized that investments are being made in the redesign and modernization of the terminal, particularly in the centralization of security checks. These measures are intended to optimize passenger processes. Digitalization is also being advanced, for example through “self-drop-off” terminals, to further reduce waiting times.
Current challenges and opportunities
Despite the positive development, Franke emphasized that the airport must continue to adapt flexibly to global and regional challenges. The focus is on the continuous development of infrastructure and services to meet the needs of both passengers and cargo partners. Demand remains stable, but it is crucial to constantly adapt to technological advances.
Since its civilian opening in 1993, Hahn Airport has evolved from an American military airfield into a major international air traffic hub operating 24 hours a day. In 2024, approximately 1.9 million passengers used the airport, representing a twelve percent increase over the previous year. Since May 2023, TRIWO AG has been part of the airport company TRIWO Hahn Airport GmbH.
