This represents an 8.4 percent increase compared to 2023, surpassing the previous peak in 2005. This increase highlights the airport’s growing importance as a hub in the U.S. Capital Region.

New and routes at Washington Dulles Airport

Six new began operations at Washington Dulles Airport last year, including International Air Lines, which announced it had launched flights between Zurich and IAD in spring 2024. Other newcomers, such as Aeromexico, Avelo, Breeze, Frontier, and Sun Country, expanded connections. Established airlines such as also increased their route and frequency offerings.

Strong growth in international traffic

According to the Airports Authority, international traffic reached new record highs with 10.38 million , representing an 11 percent increase over the previous year. A total of 43 airlines offered connections to 137 destinations worldwide, including direct flights from Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.
